A Bridge is used to restore one or more missing teeth. Bridges are fixed either by cementing with the supporting teeth or fixed on an implant placed next to the missing teeth. By replacing the missing teeth, you can properly chew and eat food.
The empty space of missing teeth could allow the neighboring teeth to shift to the empty space. This causes misalignment of teeth. Thus, it becomes even more difficult to clean them because of the misalignment. As a result, they become more prone to gum disease and tooth decay.
It usually takes two visits to complete the Bridge. In the first visit, the dentist will reduce the size of the supporting teeth so that the Bridge can be inserted into the supporting teeth and the empty space. The dentist takes an impression of the teeth so that the Bridge can be created by the laboratory technicians. Then the Bridge is inserted in the support teeth along with the empty space in the second visit. Dentist makes sure that the fit of the Bridge is perfect. After you are satisfied with the fit & comfort of the Bridge, dentist cements the Bridge permanently. The life of the Bridge depends upon how you take care of your dental hygiene and the Bridge.
Bridges are of three types:
Metal Bridge – There are metal Bridges made of gold or other precious metals. Gold gives a good fit. Remember that a good fit of the Bridge does not allow bacteria to enter the space between the Bridge and tooth and thus, there is minimum decay.
Porcelain Bridge – There are Porcelain Bridges which give you the most natural look. They look like your natural teeth and nobody can guess if you have a dental Bridge on your teeth. For Bridges to be used in front of the teeth, Porcelain Bridges remain the most preferred choice.
Porcelain Metal Hybrid Bridge – There is this third kind of Bridge which is Porcelain fused to metal body. In this, the outer part of the Bridge is made by Porcelain material whereas the inner cover is created with metal such as Gold. This gives you a perfect fit along with the natural look of a tooth.
Your dentist will guide you with the best Bridge that suits your teeth and the budget.
